Walking frequently in parklands with my dogs, I watch the steady re-emergence of potholes on the unsealed roads after council repairs: the inevitability of the forces of nature and the transience of the physical environment in evidence. The need to be aware of them to avoid mishap appeals to my quest for awareness in my surroundings. The indent reminds me of what is below the surface and the pothole is a ‘way in’ to the land. I continue to be fascinated with the ‘skin’ between the geography and me, between the air and the earth that working with these holes leads me to consider.
